The Fishmore Associates project is a 60-unit apartment complex located on half of a city block at 555 S. Catlin Street in Missoula where Hansen’s Trailer Park once sat. Territorial Landworks Inc. was hired as the sole engineer on the project. The first step for TLI was to come up with a plan to vacate part of 4th street between Catlin and Garfield to get the apartment complex nine more units. TLI was able to successfully get the land area up to get Fishmore Associated the number of units they desired on the 51,000 square foot lot.
The 3 story multi-family project brought some interesting topography issues as the location where the apartment complex was going to be built was in a hole. The City wanted Fishmore Associates to backfill the lower units making it impossible to have windows on one side of the building.
TLI was able to come up with a solution and asked the architect to design a sky bridge so the 2nd story would be level with the street on the upper side of the building. Rather than having the back of the building filled in with grassy yards they put a sky bridge over to them where residents would be able to go down the corridor to get in their apartment. This allowed the lower units to have a nice little grassy yard and windows on the backside of the building. The project included retaining walls for the steep roadsides to allow sidewalks and the sky bridge to the 2nd floor.
